Welcome to JDunlap Media, the website of Joseph Dunlap!

Here you will find my original music, my dabblings in photography, and Five Question Interviews, my unique interview format that has begun to gain its own popularity.

About My Music

In 2012, I received my M.M. in Theory/Composition from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. In 2009, I received my B.A. in Music with a concentration on Piano from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. I now work as a Staff Accompanist for Howard Payne University, primarily in the areas of vocal music and jazz, while I compose music from home.

My music, most of which for the layman falls under the “classical” style, encompasses many styles in the cultivated genres: symphonic, minimalism, neo-Romanticism, neo-Baroque, programmatic, marching band and drum corps, and jazz. I also dabble into electronic music, primarily in the style of video game soundtracks, or dubstep.

My all-time favorite composer is Johannes Brahms. Other composers and artists who have greatly influenced my music are:

  • Western or “cultivated” composers: J.S. Bach, Beethoven, R. Schumann, Mahler, R. Strauss, Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Copland, Bernstein, Barber, John Adams, Sondheim.
  • Soundtrack composers: James Newton Howard, Howard Shore, Danny Elfman, John Williams, Alan Silvestri, Tyler Bates, Philip Glass.
  • Video game composers: Martin O’Donnell, Jason Hayes, Tracy Bush, Russell Brower, Jeff Kurtenacker.
  • Bands: Incubus, Trocadero, Daft Punk.

About Five Question Interviews

Five Question Interviews is a unique interview format in which I only ask the interview guest five questions (excluding follow-up questions). These questions are derived from reader suggestions, my own curiosity, and the guest’s own interests. Five Question Interviews has gained quite a bit of popularity in its infancy, as the format yields itself to deep, meaningful and informative conversations.

I am also an avid fan of the Rooster Teeth internet production company and respected member of the Roosterteeth.com online community. As such, many of my interviews will be with either Roosterteeth.com community members or Rooster Teeth employees. However, I also occasionally interview other important personages, so it’s always an exciting time for everyone.
